Cosplay in Islam??

Cosplay and Lolita fashion in the Islamic world!  Not something I had really thought about until reading a recent article at Sankaku Complex.  I don’t know all too much about Islam, but I gotta wonder: especially as a woman, how would you get around the rules and beliefs around dress code that Islam is famous for??

Well some people have found a way!

Some cool food for thought!  And some pretty snappy ideas!

Any thoughts on cosplay in the Islam world?  Are there any rules in your culture or religion that make cosplay a little tricky to get away with?

GREAT post, great pictures. I’m definitely going to click on that fashion.

I like the first one a lot – seems to hold style. The second I loathed. Oh, black & white with frills… I shudder (no offence intended) & the third – raging!

    Terrific post :)

I actually wrote my MA on Lolita fashion. I think it suits Islamic dress codes quite well, since modesty is the overarching aesthetic.

No way! I’m thrilled to have someone in the know give their two cents. :D It kinda all helps me to see Islam in a new light, I think… and Lolita fashion, too~~

I must be old and jaundiced. I think these girls may be trying to get around, break out, but …the penalty is ex-communication, death or worse. So what are they really saying with their schizo dress?

Clever girls! I love it when people can think out of the box to accomplish things that most would not think of doing. KUDOS to those chicas!!!

Where do you find this stuff? ;D

The girls are so cute! Sometimes it feels like there’s more creativity where there are restrictions. Very interesting post!

That’s quite an interesting interpretation! Now I’m waiting for a blog post on Masai cosplay:)

I think that segment of the population is a big big demographic for Japan. Especially in the middle east or Indonesia. A huge release from all of the negativity and violence that comes from that region
